Features SmartScale Technology, an AV Industry First

RICHARDSON, Texas – May 10, 2010 – AMX®, the leading provider of solutions that simplify the implementation, maintenance, and use of technology to create effective environments, today announced that sales of its recently launched Epica® DGX line have surpassed sales projections by 300% since launch making it the most successful debut in company history. The Epica DGX family, which includes the Epica DGX 32 and Epica DGX 144 fiber matrix switchers, and DGX Transmitters and Receivers, combine breakthrough performance with simplicity of operation to produce the highest quality audio-visual installations. The DGX family allows for ultimate flexibility, use the transmitters and receivers as a point-to-point solution sending pure, uncompressed signals up to 3,000 feet; or integrate one of the matrix switchers to allow for up to 6,000 feet.

"AMX continues to deliver game-changing AV innovations that ensure quick or no set-up time," stated AMX Chief Technology Officer Robert Noble. "SmartScale is a revolutionary technology in the DGX Receivers that automatically communicates with display devices, determines native resolutions, and then delivers the optimal resolution to each display."

SmartScale automatically responds to a display's declared EDID information then optimizes the video resolution and video parameters for each display throughout a deployment, dramatically improving performance and installation time. Without SmartScale, in installations consisting of multiple displays of various types, the programmer is forced to settle for distributing common resolution imagery to all displays, as the lower resolution displays cannot handle the higher resolutions. This results in grainy images in higher resolution displays, alleviated with SmartScale Technology.

The AMX AutoPatch DGX product family has also gained popularity in part because it transcodes audio and video, from analog to digital or digital to analog. Designed for use with single-strand multimode fiber, the Epica DGX family lets installers take advantage of the most economic and easy-to-install fiber and offers optimum security, clarity and distance benefits that enable true, uncompressed DVI, RGBHV, audio and control 3,000 feet and beyond in any environment.

"The numbers speak for themselves and they're screaming YES," said Paul Hand, AMX Product Manager. "Now installers can leverage fiber cable to its fullest potential and gain true pixel-for-pixel reproduction at distances up to 6,000 feet." "Using optical pathways with the advanced on- and off-ramp technology in the DGX family, end users can distribute high-resolution 1920x1200 video at a data rate of 4.95 Gbps to up to 144 LCD screens."

Government agencies, universities, hospitals, casinos, retail environments and any facility that demands the highest quality be shared between rooms or even buildings are perfect candidates for a DGX signal distribution system. While the Epica DGX 32 and Epica DGX 144 Matrix Switchers can be used as independent matrix switching platforms; combining products to create a facility wide signal management system offers an almost unlimited video sharing application.
