Station Airs First 16x9 Newscast

Wayne, NJ (October 30, 2008) — Cincinnati, Ohio-based WKRC-TV, a Newport Television station, goes live today with its new studio broadcasting in 16x9 with JVC’s ProHD, making the GY-HD250 cameras the station’s primary studio cameras. WKRC-TV is one of many Newport stations upgrading to HD with JVC ProHD cameras for studio and ENG production.

One of the main reasons we chose the GY-HD250 was the multi configuration abilities. The camera could be configured as a true studio camera with CCU and RCU controls whereas other manufacturers didn’t have that complete capability within this product range. Another major concern for us was the flesh tone detail ability which exceeded our expectations. The cameras are versatile from many aspects and lightweight, which is an important feature for our ENG production,” said Kurt Thelen, director of engineering, WKRC-TV. “JVC enables us to operate in an SD environment with the ability to transition seamlessly, with a simple setting change, to HD next year.”

At JVC, we value the feedback of our customers,” says Joe D’Amico, director of broadcast sales, Digital Video Division, JVC Professional Products Company. “They’re the ones out in the field and in the studio using our cameras every day. Our aim was to deliver a product that would enable broadcasters and TV stations to maintain their current format while gradually upgrading to HD when they’re ready.”

Thelen further commented on the versatility of JVC, “What sets JVC apart from other manufacturers is their willingness to listen and entertain the needs of broadcasters and effectively make changes as needed. JVC’s open minded approach from small to large markets poises them as a leader as we all move forward with HD.”

In addition to the station’s daily newscasts, the GY-HD250s are utilized to produce two half hour programs, “NewsMakers” and “Make Peace with Nature.”
In the very near future, we’re planning to upgrade our ENG cameras with JVC’s GY-HD250s,” added Thelen.

WKRC-TV is currently broadcasting in a 4x3 standard definition mode and is planning to transition to 16x9 as the station moves toward to a true HD mode before the DTV transition deadline.
